Introduction
Many times we pray for great and mountain moving supernatural manifestations from the Lord without doing due diligence on ourselves. Often than enough times, God has no problem giving us exactly as we request of Him. However, He observes our readiness and preparedness to use what He gives us to maximum capacity as well as unto His glory. Unfortunately, we all fall short of His expectation in terms of preparedness. In as much as it must sound very ridiculous, men also have this expectations of their fellow humans before entrusting valuable or sensitive items to their care. It is for this purpose we have educational and experiential qualifications before offering jobs or any position of management and administrative capacity. This blog seeks to create the awareness for the need for preparedness and some vital things to consider when doing that. It also serve as a check list of your personal life goal preparation data.
Seven Critical Things To Do When Preparing [Not In Any Special Order]
Keep Relevant Relationship: as a young person aspiring for a great future, you need to keep track of the people you associate with early. The better your association, the best you gain for the future opportunities. Your relationship influences the environment you find yourself at every given time in each season of your life. You can not grow beyond your association except you change your relationship. The inner and outer influencers of your life determines how you think and your worldview to everything that psychologically and reasonably evolve around you. Appearance, posture, expression, decency, temperament, composure, etc. is highly dependent on the people you associate yourself with. Change your association and everything around you responds by automation. In some circles of relation, how you handle people matter, specially those beneath you in status quo and prestige.
Add Value To Yourself: mediocrity can not take you places. You need to expand you circle of influence through value. Upgrade your certificates to higher levels. Next time, go to a more expensive school to meet more expensive people. Take online courses. Set your goals above you and diligently pursue. Don't kill yourself but don't get killed because you lack value. Additional value would do. It may take you attending some workshops and seminars for free and probably pay for some few. Whatever happens to you in life, refuse to be valueless. Make sure every market you find yourself place premium on you because you are priceless in value. It doesn't matter where or what you may be today. You may be a janitor or a security today but aim for the C.E.O position in ten years and you could be there if you don't stop adding VALUE to yourself. People must be bless having you as a friend or colleague.
Develop Personal Values: every society welcomes people with acceptable moral standards. Be pragmatic and very courteous in every sense. What people will remember you of is how ethical you were when they encountered you. Develop values that people will admire you of. Sometimes when academic qualifications and intelligence fail, personal values of moral and ethical principles becomes the key to the door. Integrity, credibility, modesty, truthfulness, honesty, humility, love, forgiveness, temperance, charity, compassion, diligence, God-fearing etc. should be part of the baggage you carry along every time and place.
Develop Personal Standards: there is a stopping point for everyone where they either incline or decline, say yes or no, accept or reject. No one can decide that for you else you become a dummy. Many people, especially those below the belt of power and authority, compromise and flow with every standards offered them. There are others who will not bend their standards for any thing and it is not arrogance. Standard makes you more assertive and decisive. It commands certain level of quality and value anytime people are dealing with you. There are people who had to develop their standard the hard way after some major lost. Those who are very unfortunate die before deciding on what they really stands for. Start developing one now.
Develop Relevant Skills: after my polytechnic education, a friend highly recommended me to her former boss who also recommended me to his friend for a job offer. After meeting with the big man, he referred me to my immediate boss to-be who decided to test my ability to use excel sheet which I was not able to do because I don't know how. The moral in my story is that I had all the things we have discussed so far except for extra skills which was essential to the position I was being considered for. Per my conversation with the big man, I was to be assigned an official car and there I was telling him I could not drive. The salary was good, the relationship and qualification was good but vital tools that will get me into the office were not. Please use your free times to get relevant skills. Learn to drive and get your driver's license, enroll into an I.T school or learn from YouTube for free, read books to broaden your intelligence, attend workshops, conferences, seminars. Be versatile and multi-facet. You can even enroll as a trainee in some business or an enterprise you wish to be an expert one day. Learn communication and team working skills. No matter what you do, be extra skilled because it opens greater opportunities to you. I never knew about these things until I head about them in that interview. No one was kind enough to teach my poor self. Funny enough I never knew how to use Google search engine. By the time I was done learning, the opportunity was given to someone else and my value chain was cut short before these relationships created. Get skills or stand to loose some level of great relationships and opportunities. Learn to use the cutlery, table manners, customer service, etiquette etc. whatever you do, learn something. How to wear a tie, color combination, public composure, interpersonal communication skills, how to dress for occasions. Become skillful. You don't have to need them now, just have them handy in case you are taken by surprise you won't be found wanting.
Accumulate Experiences: little drops of water they say makes an ocean mighty. Take advantage of every little exposure that is offered to you. You never know when and where you may need any of them. Don't despise any exposure no matter the value at the time when it was offered. And if time serves you well, be your best at every given opportunity. Create your first impression with class. Take an internal flight just for the experience. Spend a night or two in a standard hotel. Take a road trip and spend a holiday at a good beach. Take a tour to places of interest. Attend an executive cocktail meeting. Become a volunteer and get an experience. Bit after another and very soon, you are an experienced person. Don't make a fool of yourself - learn through every little exposure.
Service: on top of the list, this is the most difficult because it means bringing down your ego and pride to do something not for yourself but for others. Service is a very unique characteristics to go along with. It is rare to find serviceable people in our current society, especially those that would have take thank you or God bless for a reward. However, if you want to remain relevant to every virtue, service is the best place to demonstrate each of them.
